Film Office FAQ's
Thank you for your interest in the City of Prescott as a location for your production. Prescott offers a variety of locations and looks, from high desert, forested lakes, winding country roads, traditional downtown courthouse square, to historic locations and buildings.
How do I know if my project requires a permit?
Please advise the Film Office of the project and to determine whether or not a permit is necessary. Generally, projects that take place on public and/or City-owned property (i.e., sidewalks, streets, lakes and parks) within the City of Prescott require a permit. If you are uncertain, please call the Film Office and we can assist you.
How much is the location fee for City-owned property?
Fees vary by location and the scope of the project. Please contact our office for information.
My film project needs to use a city street. How do I obtain permission?
Please contact us well in advance of your requested date. Filming on city streets may require additional preparation, neighborhood notification, parking/traffic plan, traffic control, barricades, etc. Some streets may require coordination with Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) or Yavapai County. We can assist you in identifying these locations.
Does the City of Prescott provide barricades?
No. Productions are responsible for all costs associated with the project. For a list of companies that provide this service, please contact the Film Office.
How far in advance must I submit my permit application?
The more time we have, the better we can assist you. Please call the Film Office as soon as you know you will be working in Prescott. Some locations require reservations or other advance arrangements.
What is a Certificate of Insurance and who needs one?
A Certificate of Insurance with an Endorsement Page is issued by an insurance company that shows insurance coverage exists, as well as types and limits. ALL projects are required to provide this document, no exceptions. Contact your insurer with any questions.
Is special permission necessary for filming on the downtown Courthouse Plaza?
Special restrictions apply to this location. Please contact the Film Office for details.
Does Prescott allow filming or photography with drones?
